1] Download the 3 install disks from http:\\www.sfwx.com/softworks/wtwin32d.htm
(or, if you can install the WeatherTrac software from a hard drive accessible to your Internet access system, download 259ALL.EXE, which includes the files on all three disks. This file will not fit on a single floppy disk, however, so if you will need to transfer the files for installation, you will need to download the three individual files above.)
You can enter that URL directly in your web browser to reach the software download page.
Download 259DISK1.EXE, 259disk2.exe, 259disk3.exe, and manualv2.zip from the download page by clicking on the file names. (There are instructions on the download page as well.) If you PKUNZIP manualv2.zip, it contains 2 WORD 7.0 formatted manuals. One is for installation, the the other is for operation.
2] Before installing the new software, it is important that you do the following:
2a] Run WtCap:Configure and note the adapter address for each channel(for example, CH1=PRO @0x300)
2b] Run WtCap:Configure:Delete on each channel to remove the old adapter definition.
2c] Exit WtCap and all WeatherTrac programs.(WtView, etc.)
3] Each file is a self-exploding exe which will create the installation disks. You can either:
3a] copy these three files onto a temporary directory on the target machine, then explode them(by running them)on that directory. For example, if the three files were copied to C:\WTEMP on the target machine and you wanted to create the installation files on that directory, enter the following from an MS_DOS command console:
C: CD C:\WTEMP 259DISK1 259DISK2 259DISK3or
3b] you can explode them from that directory onto floppy disks(1 at a time)to create conventional install disks. For example, if the three files were copied to C:\WTEMP, the following would create the three diskettes from an MS-DOS console:
CD C:\WTEMP A: <insert formatted blank floppy disk1 in drive A:> C:259DISK1 <when done, insert formatted floppy disk2 in drive A:> C:259DISK2 <when done, insert formatted floppy disk3 in drive A:> C:259DISK3
4] Install the new version over the old version.
You can delete the old version first using Start:Settings:Control Panel:Add/Remove Programs then select WtCap, but it is not necessary. The new version will install over the old version. All customer custom files will be maintained.
4a] First, run the utility CLEANWTC.BAT. The SETUP program will remind you to do this if you forget. It is included on DISK1 (or is in C:\WTEMP if you created the setup files on the harddisk.) To do this:
Start:Run:A:CLEANWTC.BAT or Start:RUN:C:\WTEMP\CLEANWTC.BAT. Or, you can click on the file with Explorer.
4b] Then, run the normal SETUP program, as in:
Start:Run:A:SETUP or Start:RUN:C:\WTEMP\SETUP. Or, you can click on the file with Explorer.
Follow the instructions on the screen. If not sure, just use all the defaults. If you install from floppy, SETUP willl prompt you to enter each disk. If you install from a harddrive, SETUP will proceed complete.
5] When done, redefine the channel adapters as before.
Run WtCap:Configure, then define the adapter type and address. For example, click PRO, then make sure the adapter address agrees with the previous settings (ex, 0x300). Your previous configuration files and schedule files will still be maintained as before.
6] The software will automatically have a 30 day license when you install it.
If you have purchased or are eligible to convert this to a permanent license, run WtCap:License, then Create License Form. Fill it out and either Print to file and e-mail the file to support@sfwx.com, or print to printer and FAX it to +1(610)395-8534. We will generate a permanent SITE KEY and return it to you. When you get the SITE KEY back, run WtCap:License, then enter the SITE KEY and press the AUTHORIZE button one time. Then, close the dialog.
Future software updates will not require a new SITE KEY as long as the license files on the installation directory are not destroyed/moved/altered. Deleting the files, moving the files, or opening the files with an editor and resaving them will alter the license files and make them non-functional. However, normal operation of the computer, including reinstallation of newer versions of the WeatherTrac software over older versions, will not damage the license files.
IMPORTANT NOTE: if using a disk defragment program, be sure to configure it to ignore the license files. These are files beginning with name WTCAP and extensions .ENT, .RST, and .KEY. For example, to configure Norton Speed Disk to ignore these files, open Speed Disk and choose File|Options|Customize|Unmovable Files and specify that *.ENT, *.RST, and *.KEY files cannot be moved. This will allo Speed Disk to run without damaging the license files.
